Western Breach Route
Breathtaking and airy - the Western Breach delivers a 'big mountain' climb with a night in the crater, and a short summit day. It's one of our favorites.

This awe inspiring approach to Kilimanjaro's highest camp is famous for it’s diversity of vegetation and breathtaking views. Tropical forests give way to tall grasses and giant heather with views over the Serengeti plains.
Your MountainQUEST adventure starts at the Machame gate - far removed from the masses traveling up the crowded and dirty Marangu or "Coca Cola" route. We begin in a tropical rainforest, and walk slowly towards our first camp on the upper edge of the Machame forest.
Reach out and touch the 'Snows of Kilimanjaro'
As we climb, we pass through the "cloud forest" on the way to the breathtaking Shira Plateau, where we spend a night to help us acclimatize. Our Lava tower camp is truly spectacular... and it allows us a good rest and some amazing views. Next, it's upwards to the Arrow Glacier camp, and on to the stunning Western Breach. Our high camp is in the crater... right beside the famed 'Snows of Kilimanjaro.'

Summit Day...
Our summit day is only a 1-2 hour hike from our high camp... and our guides know to leave early enough to give us an excellent shot of seeing the sun rise from the top.
With stunning views of Mount Meru in the distance, we make your way to Uhuru peak, the true summit of Kilimanjaro, which stands at 19,340 feet.
No technical experience required...
All you need is the desire to stand on the roof of Africa. MountainQuest will help you prepare with regular support, and instruction from up to 6 months prior to your adventure... right through to the summit. Your camps, your food, and your crew will be to the absolute highest standard available.
Your personal porters...
Your personal porters will carry all of your equipment. You carry a light day pack with water, food, some extra clothing and your CAMERA! All of these factors combine to provide a high summit success rate.
After the climb we descend to the comforts of our mountain lodge… set in a coffee plantation among the beautiful Tanzanian landscape.
